After two weeks, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has accumulated 104.5 crore* at the Box Office. That has made the Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma starrer as only the sixth film in 2016 (after Sultan, M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story, Airlift, Rustom and Housefull 3) to achieve this feat. In the coming days though, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil should go past Housefull 3 [107.70 crore].
Considering the fact that around 100 films have released this year already, it is disappointing that only six films have cracked the 100 crore milestone this year. That said, 2015 wasn’t any better either as only six films (Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Bajirao Mastani, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Dilwale, ABCD – Any Body Can Dance – 2) had entered the 100 crore club back then. In comparison, at least two more films (Shivaay, Dangal) are expected to achieve this milestone this year.
There is always scope for a lot more if one looks at 2014 when as many as nine films (PK, Kick, Happy New Year, Bang Bang, Singham Returns, Jai Ho, Holiday, Ek Villain, 2 States) had achieved this milestone. Even 2013 was good with eight 100 crore films (Dhoom 3, Chennai Express, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Krrish 3, Ram Leela, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Grand Masti, Race 2). 2012 was even better with nine centuries (Ek Tha Tiger, Dabangg 2, Rowdy Rathore, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Agneepath, Housefull 2, Barfi!, Son of Sardaar, Bol Bachchan).
For the sake of the industry, one hopes situation gets better in 2017!
