Plot twist: Jennifer Lawrence was drunk during one of her Passengers scenes—and no, it wasn’t a wild party moment. It was for that kiss with Chris Pratt. J-Law needed liquid courage to get through her first on-screen smooch with a married co-star.
Jennifer spilled the tea in a 2015 Actress Roundtable for The Hollywood Reporter. “I got drunk,” she admitted, referring to the nerve-wracking moment. And while we’ve all had times where a drink helps calm the nerves, Jennifer’s post-kiss anxiety kicked things up a notch. “Then that led to more anxiety when I got home,” she revealed, laughing at the guilt that came crashing in. “I don’t know; I couldn’t tell my stomach that it was my job.” Relatable, right?
To make matters trickier, Chris Pratt was married at the time. Jennifer didn’t shy away from admitting how vulnerable she felt. “It was the most vulnerable I’ve ever been,” she confessed. Does playing pretend while wrestling with real-life emotions? Not an easy gig.
But let’s not forget J-Law’s Hunger Games antics, which couldn’t have been more opposite. While filming with Liam Hemsworth, she turned those kissing scenes into her personal prank zone. During a 2014 Tonight Show appearance, Liam revealed her hilarious (and disgusting) tactic. “She’d eat garlic or tuna fish or something so disgusting,” he shared. His sarcastic enthusiasm? “Fantastic, I can’t wait to get in there and taste it.”
Jennifer didn’t deny it either. “When I had to kiss Josh [Hutcherson] and Liam, I was like, ‘Who cares?’ and I’d eat mustard and tuna,” she joked. Imagine filming a romantic scene with someone who smells like they raided a condiment aisle. Classic J-Law.
