Harry Potter is one of the most loved fantasy franchises around the world. Every 90s kid still has a fondness for the franchise, even after so many years. Not just that many in the cast, from Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson to Bonnie Wright, fostered a unique bond as they grew up together on screen.
However, it comes with certain challenges for the actors. Emma and Rupert Grint, have been quite open about the awkwardness and unexpected challenges behind filming some of the scenes, especially the kissing scenes. However, they were not the only on-screen couple who had this feeling.
Daniel Radcliffe, also experienced something similar when he was required to kiss his love interest, Ginny Weasley, portrayed by Bonnie Wright in the franchise. During a conversation with Access Hollywood, the Harry Potter star opened up about it and called it “weird”.
Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe shared, “The kiss was… fine,” before adding, “It was slightly weird at first.” He went on to express that, despite having filmed kissing scenes before, there was an odd sensation associated with kissing someone he had known since childhood.
“It was one of those things where it was slightly odd at first because I’ve known Bonnie since she was 9, and I was 11,” he shared. Nonetheless, after a few takes, he decided to proceed with the scene. Interestingly, he wasn’t the only one with these sentiments, as his co-star, Bonnie Wright, expressed a similar perspective in various interviews.
In the book series, Harry and Ginny’s first kiss takes place in the sixth instalment of Harry Potter. On the other hand, Bonnie Wright discovered this development from her friends who had read the books faster than her. She revealed that it was an unusual experience, as she had to film the scene with someone who had been like a “friend and kind of like a brother” to her.
Talking to Seventeen, Bonnie said, “Strange! We’ve known each other so long. That was weird — having to look at someone in a different way.” However, the actress shared that she felt okay on the actual day they were supposed to film the scene and “just went for it.”
She explained that she attempted to approach it like any other scene she had to act in. Wright also mentioned that they had to go through approximately 30 takes to perfect the scene, spanning two days of filming. “And obviously, a lot happens in the scene as well. It was probably like 30 takes!” she said.
