Brahmastra Box Office Review (Hindi): Expectations
If one can recall, Brahmastra was announced way back in 2014. Yes, you read that right! It’s the year when we witnessed a major political shift in the country and saw Narendra Modi taking the oath as Indian prime minister. A big span of time has passed ever since and during all these years, Ayan Mukerji’s magnum opus faced several ups and downs.
It saw several delays and the buzz went downhill during the Covid pandemic. It got picked a bit when the trailer was released, but again the excitement went low. Even a couple of weeks back, the film was low on hype but the marketing team did a good job and managed to create an undercurrent. It was clearly seen through advance bookings and one thing was sure Bollywood has got its biggest opener in the post-pandemic era.
In pre-Covid time, even worst-rated films like Race 3 and Thugs Of Hindostan managed 100 crores on opening weekend, but now, it all boils down to word-of-mouth. Even if a particular film has taken a huge start, no matter how big the star cast is, it crashes like anything if the content misfires. In today’s time, one can say that no film is now ‘weekend proof’, no matter how big it is. So, even though bookings were looking amazing, it was hard to predict where will this Ranbir’s biggie will land.

Brahmastra Box Office Review (Hindi): Impact
Made on a budget of over 400 crores, the film has been promoted as a visual treat with never-seen-before VFX work. 3D and 3D IMAX versions are showing superb responses all across the country. Thankfully, it justifies every single penny as the visuals are stunning and it’s a whole new experience in Indian cinema. It’s an answer to all who have been asking for a film matching Hollywood standards. It has hit the bull’s eye in attracting its target audience and that’s youth in the range of 10-30 years. Even though it’s an experience for all, the aforementioned age group will make for the majority of footfalls.
After talking about the positives, let’s discuss some minuses. After initial positive reactions, mixed word-of-mouth has now started flowing in. No one is calling it a bad film but many are pointing out too much attention on grandeur and romance, rather than the screenplay. Shah Rukh Khan’s cameo is doing its job of attracting the audience, while some feel that he has been wasted. Also, the content will not appeal to all age groups and all centres, impacting the span of the theatrical run.
Brahmastra Box Office Review (Hindi): Final Verdict
On the whole, Brahmastra has things working in favour and things not working in favour as well. However, the hype and the cinematic experience definitely have an edge over shortcomings. And not to forget that there’s no major film releasing until Vikram Vedha releases on 30th September.
So, it’s clear ground to score for Brahmastra at the box office and it is eyeing to make anywhere between 190-220 crores. Expect 100 crores in the first weekend itself, bringing back the good old days for Bollywood!

It’s raining Ranbir Kapoor and no one is allowed to complain! The actor who recently released the trailer of his long-awaited magnum opus Brahmastra, is now back to introduce the world to another magnum opus. Yes, we are talking about Shamshera. After waiting for the past two years, finally, Yash Raj Films has today released the first official trailer of the period drama that brings together Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt & Vaani Kapoor.
The 3-minute 5-second-long trailer is a sneak peek into the world of Shamshera. While it is about a dacoit and how he has to fight the oppressors one fine day, it is also about a legacy that he has to love upto. And if you haven’t noticed yet, Ranbir is playing a double role! That is ample of Ranbir and we are all up for it.
What seems to be promising about this Karan Malhotra directorial is that he has used Ranbir Kapoor’s charm and his unique innocence even when he is playing a dacoit. The trailer opens to a carefree guy who is dancing to his own rhythm while introducing you to his dark world. That’s a pretty good start by the way. Sanjay Dutt is back to play the bad guy, but this has to be unique because it is Malhotra who first made him the iconic villain Kancha Cheena in Agneepath.

While Vaani Kapoor is the seductress and beauty with brains, her styling seems a bit questionable. If this is an era way before independence, she is dressed quite late 90s. Maybe there is a justification for the same in the movie. But the entire trailer is a visual treat and does make you curious to know the world. Malhotra is a good storyteller and this is a project he has taken a lot of time to shape. Let’s hope we aren’t up for another Thugs Of Hindostan. Fingers crossed.

Some films walk a tough path and aim to change the game, sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. But they definitely create a way for many like them to come and only advance than what the predecessor does. Ayan Mukerji’s brainchild Brahmastra, whom he has been nurturing for a decade seems like one. The film that has been in production while Indian cinema churned out thousands of films, is finally hitting shores. It’s precisely been 4 years since its announcement and 7 since the time we have been hearing about it.
Many speculations, rumours, confirmation, white noise, and demands later, the team including Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and Mouni Roy are finally all set to bring to you their magnum opus. The trailer is finally out on YouTube today and one thing is confirmed it is a visual treat like no other.
The trailer introduces you to magic in the first 10 seconds and you are left craving for what’s next. The victory that Mukerji tastes with the trailer is the fact that his hero comes much later and he lets his world take over first. I hope even the movie does that because the Astraverse is much bigger than any character and it is important to understand that first. In a kind of ideation and making BTS video shown to us in a special screening, Ayan’s world is fascinating and the audience needs to be aware of that.

The Brahmastra trailer cleverly packs all the selling elements from the massive stars to the astonishingly beautiful VFX, to Pritam’s fantastic score to some elements that might be the biggest surprise. It manages to draw your attention and hold you there. But have to say this, Pritam might just end up giving one of the best scores of his life with this one.
Amitabh Bachchan describes Brahmastra as Modern Mythology and it is fascinating how Mukerji manages to bring the elements of the Indian mythology and marry them with his story to create a world that looks closer to our roots but has the calibre to compete with the Global content. Won’t spoil your experience by explaining the myth part much but it is beautiful.
All things said the negative publicity of the film is indeed massive. But the audience needs to be aware and give this team a chance to bring one of the most ambitious films to the big screen. The vision is fresh and it’s a homage to our roots. You can watch the trailer below and stay tuned to Koimoi for more.
