Ahead of the special occasion of Valentine’s Day, several romantic Bollywood films were rereleased in theatres. Surprisingly, almost all of them have done well but it’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Jab We Met that garnered major eyeballs at the Indian box office with their rerun. Keep reading to know more!
It’s been a trend in the last few years that during Valentine’s Week, several old Bollywood films are showcased in theatres. This time, too, many cults made their way into theatres. Films like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Veer Zaara, Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and Jab We Met enjoyed their special run. Amongst all, the last two cult romcoms have achieved a cumulative milestone of 50 crores.
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, was originally released in 2013. This Ayan Mukerji directorial enjoyed positive reviews from critics, and even word-of-mouth was highly positive upon its release. In India, the film ended its journey at 190.03 crores net.
Over the years, YJHD has built a solid fan base for itself, and its popularity was clearly seen during this Valentine’s Week. As per the report in Sacnilk, the film earned 28.14 lakh at the Indian box office during its run from 9th February to 15th February. Speaking about the footfalls, it sold 21,567 tickets.
Coming to Jab We Met, the film stars Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan in the leading roles. It was originally released in 2007 and was well-received by critics as well as audiences. During the original run, the film amassed around 32 crores net and was declared a hit.
Considered one of the best films of Imtiaz Ali, Jab We Met is a modern-day cult classic from Bollywood, and it still finds good traction from viewers. Speaking about the latest collection update, the film did a business of 27.83 lakh during its rerun from 9th February to 15th February. It sold 20,619 tickets across the country.
The combined collection of both films stands at 56.07 lakh, which is impressive.
