Following the grand success of Kalki 2898 AD, Prabhas is set to make a big-screen comeback after a year and a half with his highly anticipated film, The Raja Saab. Mounted on a huge scale, the magnum opus is hitting theaters on January 9, 2026, just before the Sankranti festival. So, it’s going to be the big Sankranti release from Tollywood and is expected to open big at the Indian box office. But will it be able to register the biggest opening ever for a Sankranti release? Let’s discuss it below!

For those who don’t know, Sankranti is the biggest festival for Tollywood in terms of business potential. In the past, we have seen films with even average or below-average content make big numbers due to this festive season. During the Sankranti period, families flock to theaters in large numbers to enjoy films, resulting in substantial revenue. This is why many production houses opt to book this festive release, resulting in big box office clashes.

The Raja Saab is set to open big despite the competition

In 2026, Prabhas is arriving on Sankranti with The Raja Saab, and everyone is excited to see how it performs. Apart from this biggie, even Chiranjeevi’s Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu is likely to arrive on Sankranti. Apart from these two Tollywood releases, even Thalapathy Vijay is coming with Jana Nayagan.

Out of all major releases, The Raja Saab is expected to dominate the Indian box office, at least on day 1. Prabhas‘ stardom will be on full display, helping the film register a solid start. Considering the hype, especially in the Telugu market, the film is likely to open above 50 crore net, thus giving it an easy chance of becoming the biggest Sankranti opener.

Prabhas is likely to deliver the biggest Sankranti opener

This year, Ram Charan delivered the biggest opening for a Sankranti release with his Game Changer, which earned 51 crore net on day 1. It dethroned Mahesh Babu’s Sarileru Neekevvaru (45.7 crore net) to grab the top spot. Now, with The Raja Saab, Prabhas is most likely to dominate the Sankranti charts.
