It will be a clash of the titans this Eid season as Ajay Devgn is all set to compete with Akshay Kumar. We’re talking about Maidaan and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, which are both releasing on April 10, 2024. Ahead of the big clash, let’s analyze the box office collections made by the last three films of the superstars.

To start with, Maidaan is a biographical sports drama based on the life of coach Syed Abdul Rahim, who revolutionized football in India. The cast includes Priyamani as Ajay Devgn’s love interest, Gajraj Rao and Rudranil Ghosh.

On the other hand, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan is an action thriller directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. It will feature an intriguing camaraderie between Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, while Prithviraj Sukumaran will play the antagonist. Action films tend to get better footfalls at the ticket windows, and if BMCM turns out to be a messy entertainer, only sky will be the limit at the box office.

Ajay Devgn at the box office

Fans would be excited to hear that two out of three recent films by Ajay Devgn are a part of his top 10 highest openers. Drishyam 2 is placed 4th on the list with an impressive opening of 15.38 crores. The currently running Shaitaan scored 15.21 crores on day 1.

Akshay Kumar at the box office

It isn’t hidden that Akshay Kumar films are currently dwindling at the box office. His last hit before OMG 2 was Good Newwz (2019), although there were as many as 11 releases between the two. It is to be noted that Sooryavanshi was only a plus affair at the box office.

Take a look at the underwhelming box office performance of the last 3 Akshay Kumar films below:

Selfiee (2023): 16.50 crores (Flop)

OMG 2: 150 crores (Hit)

Mission Raniganj: 31 crores (Flop)

Total box office collection: 197.5 crores

Akshay Kumar vs Ajay Devgn

Clearly, Ajay’s films have been much more successful in recent times. When calculated, there’s an increase of almost 140% of earnings compared to Akshay.

It will now be exciting to see whether Bade Miyan Chote Miyan will change the game for Akshay Kumar and finally end his dry spell.

Meanwhile, given the recent trend, Devgn’s film has a lot of scope to do well. Now, everything depends on the content and word-of-mouth!
