After her kissing scene with Hrithik Roshan in Dhoom 2, Aishwarya Rai was slapped with multiple legal notices. She revealed in a conversation with DailyMail that people told her that she’s iconic and an example for many girls in Bollywood. The viewers weren’t comfortable watching her in such scenes and questioned her why she did it.
Aishwarya Rai responded, “I am just an actor, doing my job, and here I am being asked to give an explanation for a couple of 2 to 3-second scenes in a two to three-hour film. A lot of actors have kissed before this scene and they continue to till the very date.”
Aishwarya Rai claims Indian actors aren’t comfortable with intimate scenes
During the conversation, Aishwarya also revealed that she wasn’t comfortable shooting intimate scenes in movies and declined many such offers. She also spoke about how the public display of affection (PDA) isn’t very common in Indian culture.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan added, “It’s very rare that actors look comfortable in our cinema, on-screen, kissing. It almost looks like it’s a planned moment, just to make much to do about a moment or to excite the audience. What the kisses in the Western movies are what our songs do, and that’s where our audience experiences all the emotions that the Western audience does when their actors kiss.”
