IPL Auctions 2024, last year was as interesting as it could be, and the world saw Shah Rukh Khan & Juhi Chawla‘s team, Kolkata Knight Riders, making the biggest bid ever in the history of the IPL season. The bidding table was led by Gautam Gambhir while they sealed the bid for the costliest player in the history of IPL.
The bid was made on the Australian cricketer Mitchell Starc, who is a bowler and has played in the IPL twice, in 2014 and 2015. The cricketer will be returning to the series this year after SRK’s team bought him at a hefty price.
Mitchell cost Kolkata Knight Riders a whopping 24.75 crore, and he pushed Pat Cummins, who was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for 20.50 crore in the same auction, to number 2 in a few minutes. Mitchell and Pat pushed Sam Curran, the highest-paid player of 2023, to number 3. Punjab Kings won the bid for Sam against 18.50 crore in 2023.
Talking about the highest bids in IPL, Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders appear in the top 10 bids for another season as well. It was in 2020 that they made the biggest bid in the history of IPL and bought Pat Cummins for 15.50 crore.
In 2024, KKR broke their previous record by a whopping 59.67% higher bid, beating their best of 15.50 crore with Mitchell Starc’s 25.75 crore.
When the bidding was over, fans were elated to see Shah Rukh Khan ruling the field as well. Some of them even asked him, before bidding in an Ask SRK session, whether the bidding would be more than Dunki’s opening or less. Interestingly, the auction price was less than Dunki’s box office opening, which collected 29.20 crore on day 1.
For the unversed, the last of the IPL was won by Chennai Super Kings. The final match was between CSK and Gujarat Titans. Shah Rukh Khan‘s Kolkata Knight Riders have won the IPL season twice in 2012 and 2014. While they battled Chennai Super Kings for their first victory, they destroyed Kings XI Punjab in 2014 for their second victory.
The team reached finals for another time in 2021 when they lost the battle to Chennai Super Kings. Hopefully, this time, their mantra of Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo will bring them victory!
