Raghu Ram, the ex-judge of the popular reality show Roadies on MTV, had an unfavorable exit from the show in 2014 along with his brother Rajiv, 11 years after judging the show. The duo were the faces of the Roadies, and how they grilled the contestants or approached them was a massive hit among the fans.
At the time of their departure, they didn’t speak much about it and only said that their vision of the show didn’t match what the makers wanted it to be, so they were leaving. However, Raghu Ram has opened up on why he left the show with Rajiv.
In a recent podcast show, Untriggered with AminJaz, Raghu said that he and Rajiv quit the show because of the excessive interference from the show producers. He mentioned that the producers pressured them to shout at contestants and create more drama, a style they were growing uncomfortable with.
“That’s why I left Roadies. Rajiv and I walked off because there was too much interference. We were told to scream at people. It’s either that or you have to dance to their tune. It’s a good problem because you are a success, but now you are no longer you. You belong to them,” Indian Express quoted Raghu Ram.
Raghu said that at that time, he behaved in a manner that could have been an issue with many people, but then he was doing his job. “I was doing a job; I don’t know if it is right or wrong. It’s the same thing, influencing Poonam Pandey, I don’t know… If you hate me for what I did, then I am guilty as charged. I am not apologetic to you about it,” he said.
Raghu said that his persona came out the way it was and connected with the audience because he was honest.
He remarked that what Roadies is today is precisely the way the makers wanted it, and he’s happy about it, but he expressed his disappointment over the fact that the show has lost its authenticity. The show’s present judges are Ranvijay Singha, Elvish Yadav, Neha Dhupia, Prince Narula, and Rhea Chakraborty.
