For fans of the Matrix movies, the names Lily and Lana Wachowski hold are a big deal. But the studio confirmed that the pioneers won’t be returning to direct the new iteration of Matrix. The Martian Writer will work on the script with his partner, Sarah Esberg. The new director, Drew Goddard, is the writer behind some vast projects, like Cloverfield and World War Z, and serving as writer-director on The Cabin in the Woods and Bad Times at the El Royale.
Is Matrix 5 A Reebot?
It has yet to be confirmed whether or not the movie is a complete overhaul of the past franchise. After its origin movie, The Matrix came out in 1999. The film then spun off three other sequels: 2003’s The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions and 2021’s The Matrix Resurrections.

The fourth installment of the movie, Resurrections, came out after a gap of 18 years. It was directed solely by Lana and turned out to be a major box-office disappointment, only grossing $159 Million against its $190 Million Dollar Budget.
President of Motion Pictures at Warner Bros., Jesse Erham, spoke about the movie, hinting at the general idea without revealing too much. He said, “Drew came to Warner Bros. with a new idea that we all believe would be an incredible way to continue the Matrix world by honoring what Lana and Lilly began over 25 years ago and offering a unique perspective based on his love of the series and characters”.
Will Keanu Reeves Return For Matrix 5?
When the announcement for the movie was made, one of the first questions in the audience’s minds was whether Keanu Reeves would return. It is yet to be confirmed because the studio only announced that a fifth Matrix movie is in the works.

The movies have had an excellent cast. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss have led the film as Neo and Trinity. At the same time, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas joined the last installment. But confirmation of the return of any of the cast has yet to be made.
