Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has managed to achieve a rare milestone. It has entered the 200 Crore Club, hence turning out to be one amongst the 8 films to have managed this feat in the history of Bollywood.
After netting 193.22 crore in its first 10 days, the film collected 2.7 crores on Monday, 2.7 crores on Tuesday and 2.90 crores on Wednesday, thus managing to surpass the 200 crore mark. The film has currently managed a total of 201.52 crores at the domestic box office. Considering the fact that the film has mixed response in different parts of the country, the fact that this milestone has still been accomplished tells a lot about the stardom that Salman Khan enjoys, the patronage that Sooraj Barjatya has earned over last 25 years and of course the marketing push that was provided by Fox.
While it is a given that the film will cross the 202 crore total of 3 Idiots and also the Happy New Year total of 205 crore, it would have to settle down below the Chennai Express total of 227 crore, hence finding itself at the sixth spot amongst the biggest totals ever.
In 2015, it is now the second highest grosser ever after Bajrangi Bhaijaan [321 crore]. The distance is too far between the two films, both being Salman Khan starrers. However, considering the fact that the third best so far has been a mid-budget Tanu Weds Manu Returns [152 crore], it tells a lot about the state of 2015 where not many movies have made big bucks in theaters.
One now waits to see how Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale perform before the close of year, and battle it out to go past Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
Meanwhile, here is the list of other films in the 200 Crore Club:
PK – 338 crore
Bajrangi Bhaijaan – 321 crore
Dhoom 3 – 284 crore
Krrish 3 – 240.50 cr0re
