Metro In Dino Box Office Collection Day 1: Takes A Slow Start, Earns Less Than Kajol’s Maa

Anurag Basu’s much-awaited Metro In Dino released in theatres yesterday. When the announcement was made, the film built good buzz around itself, all thanks to the goodwill of its predecessor, Life In A Metro. However, the buzz didn’t remain intact around the release period due to underwhelming promotions. The result was seen through the film’s day 1 performance at the Indian box office. Marking Anurag Basu’s return after four years since Ludo (2020), the latest Bollywood musical romantic drama is a spiritual sequel to Life In A Metro. Being a sequel, expectations were high for the film, but the biggie has failed to deliver as far as the start is concerned. It’s understood that the film is a word-of-mouth-dependent affair, but still, being a sequel, there’s always an edge in initial momentum. In this case, the makers couldn’t capitalize on that sequel factor.

How much did Metro In Dino earn at the Indian box office on day 1?

Released yesterday alongside Hollywood biggie, Jurassic World Rebirth, Metro In Dino registered a slow start at the Indian box office by earning 4.05 crore net on day 1. With such a start, the film has failed to enter the top 10 Bollywood openers of 2025. Also, the opening is lower than Kajol’s Maa (4.93 crores).

The good thing is that despite the competition from Jurassic World Rebirth, F1, and Sitaare Zameen Par in the urban centers, the film saw a surge in its occupancy during evening and night shows. This surge could be indicative of positive word-of-mouth coming into play. Also, it could be only due to the weekend factor. So, the real picture will only come out on Monday.

Budget of the film

Such a start is not at all good for Metro In Dino, considering the budget it is carrying. While there’s no official confirmation, reports suggest that the film’s budget is 85 crores. Against this huge cost, it needs to maintain a strong momentum at the Indian box office at least for a couple of weeks.
