Leo marks the third outing in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe but also the most successful so far! Thalapathy Vijay starrer knocked it out of the park during its 4-day extended opening weekend. The craze is massive, and the footfalls are unprecedented, such that the action-thriller has already surpassed Kamal Haasan‘s Vikram at the worldwide box office. Scroll below for more details!
Karthi’s Kaithi was the first film in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe. Vikram continued the legacy, and the massive success of it left viewers asking for more. Despite initial resistance, it was finally confirmed that Leo would be officially the third outing in the universe, and fans couldn’t keep calm. Advance booking trends left behind the Biggest Indian blockbusters of 2023, including Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Jawan.
As per the latest box office updates, Leo has added 51 crores gross to its worldwide collections on Day 5. This includes 36 crores gross of Indian collections while the remaining 15 crores gross came from the overseas markets.
The total earnings so far have accumulated to 265 crores gross in India and 165 crores gross in the overseas market (revised numbers). With numbers surging as high as 430 crores worldwide within the first five days, Leo has left behind Vikram, which garnered 426 crores gross in its lifetime. A phenomenal run, isn’t it?
With Dusshera festivities all across the country, this is going to be another moment for Lokesh Kanagaraj’s film to shine bright and accumulate moolah at the box office. Trade experts are expecting collections of above 35 crores; only time will tell if that happens.
It is to be noted that there’s no major competition in the domestic markets. We have biggies like Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour and Killers Of The Flower Moon in the international markets, but the niche is completely different; hence, there is little to no effect on this action-thriller.
Meanwhile, Leo stars Thalapathy Vijay in the leading role alongside Sanjay Dutt, Arjun, Trisha, Madonna Sebastian, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mysskin, Mansoor Ali Khan, George Maryan, Priya Anand and Mathew Thomas.
The film is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. It was released on 19 October 2023 and is successfully running in four languages across theatres – Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.
