Timothee Chalamet’s Dune 2 continues to enjoy its glorious run at the worldwide box office. While the pace has gone down a bit due to new releases, the film is still doing enough to keep moving its tally by a healthy score. In the latest development, the biggie has amassed a superb total so far in IMAX, and it might even surpass the lifetime collection of Oscar-winning blockbuster Oppenheimer. Keep reading to know more!
Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the Dune sequel received praise for its visuals upon its release. While the overall content has got a thumbs-up from the audience, the film is enjoying repeat audiences due to its big-screen experience. Even before its release, the film was promoted as a visual extravaganza, and as expected, it has done really well in IMAX so far.
Dune 2’s IMAX run
As per the latest update, Dune 2 has amassed a whopping $124 million from the IMAX version alone at the worldwide box office. Out of this total, $58.3 million has come from the domestic market (US and Canada). The contribution from overseas is $65.7 million so far, and out of it, $15 million has come from China alone.
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer was also promoted as a visual treat and mesmerizing IMAX experience. As expected, the film was a huge success in the premium format, and it amassed a global collection of $183.2 million. So, if compared, Dune 2 is $59.2 million away from reaching Nolan‘s film, and considering the current successful run, it has a chance to cross the figure.
Dune 2 at the worldwide box office
Last weekend, the film amassed $31.9 million in overseas, pushing the tally to $342.2 million. The sequel has earned $233.4 million at the North American box office. Combining both, the worldwide collection stands at $575.6 million. During this week, the milestone of $600 million is ready to be crossed.
