Crew has taken a fantastic start at the box office. It was always meant to be a good opener, and the challenge was whether it would be able to sneak into the Top-10 female-centric films ever by going past the likes of Raazi (7.53 crore) and Jism 2 (7.46 crore), which occupied No. 9 and No. 10 slots respectively.
Had it found itself right there on the list, then even that would have been quite an achievement. However, the film is still far better by actually stepping into the Top-3.
That’s correct; the film is now next only to Veere Di Wedding and Gangubai Kathiawadi and is just a few lakhs below them, which is a huge achievement. It has in fact, gone past the likes of The Dirty Picture, Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi, and Dear Zindagi, all of which were in the Top-5.
It’s also more than a couple of crores ahead of The Kerala Story, which was released around a year back and, in fact, was also a big surprise for the trade and industry.
This is how the first-day collections of the Top-10 biggest female-centric films stand:
Veere Di Wedding – 10.70 crore
Gangubai Kathiawadi – 10.50 crore
Crew – 10.28 crore
The Dirty Picture – 9.54 crore
Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi – 8.75 crore
Dear Zindagi – 8.75 crore
Ragini MMS 2 – 8.43 crores
The Kerala Story – 8.03 crore
Mary Kom – 8 crore
Raazi – 7.53 crore
As can be seen, Alia Bhatt has as many as three films on the Top-10 list, and now Kareena Kapoor Khan also has two movies in the Top 3, albeit both being ensemble affairs. Incidentally, Sunny Leone had two of her films in the Top 10 for the longest time but now would have to contend with just Ragini MMS 2, which will stay there for a while, too.
