Time and again, Govinda manages to grab the headlines, but sadly, almost every time, the reason is negative. In the last few days, the Bollywood legend has been in the news due to his marital life. Reports have been suggesting that all is not well between him and his wife, Sunita Ahuja. Amidst this, the latest reports state that the actor has been rushed to the hospital due to health issues, sending his fans into a panic. Since the 61-year-old continues to grab the headlines, let’s take a look at his last box office success and the tragic run that followed it!

Reportedly, the veteran actor fainted yesterday evening (November 11) and was rushed to the hospital in Mumbai. He is currently under observation. Hopefully, he recovers very soon and even makes a comeback to the entertainment world. In the 90s, he was among the biggest superstars of Bollywood, who witnessed a tragic downfall in the following years.

Govinda’s last box office success came in 2007

During his prime, Govinda was among the top crowd pullers in B and C centers, but now, he’s struggling to taste even a clean success. In fact, his last successful film came with Partner (2007), which also starred Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, and Lara Dutta. Made on a budget of 28 crores, it amassed around 61 crore net at the Indian box office.

By making returns of over 100%, Partner was declared a super hit. It enjoyed a huge 1.44 crore footfalls, thus becoming a much-needed commercial success for Govinda. After such a significant breakthrough at the box office, he was expected to bounce back strongly, but shockingly, he experienced a huge decline.

No clean success in the last 18 years

Post-Partner, Chi Chi appeared in not one, not two, but thirteen Hindi films, but none of them managed to shine at the Indian box office and were declared major flops. Some of these films didn’t even receive a proper theatrical release, which is unfortunate for the Bollywood legend who once dominated the 90s.

Take a look at the performance of Govinda’s releases post-Partner (net):

  1. Money Hai Toh Honey Hai (2008) – 3.88 crores
  2. Chal Chala Chal (2009) – 1.29 crores
  3. Life Partner (2009) – 21 crores
  4. Do Knot Disturb (2009) – 17 crores
  5. Raavan (2010) – 29 crores
  6. Naughty @ 40 (2011) – 1.39 crores
  7. Loot (2011) – 3.2 crores
  8. Deewana Main Deewana (2013) – 33 lakh
  9. Kill Dil (2014) – 31.15 crores
  10. Happy Ending (2014) – 21.89 crores
  11. Aa Gaya Hero (2017) – 1.3 crores
  12. FryDay (2018) – 1.75 crores
  13. Rangeela Raja (2019) – 34 lakh

As we can see, Govinda is going through a drought period at the Indian box office, and it’s really tough to make a comeback from here. However, miracles do happen, and we really hope that he finds a commercial winner like Partner.
