Ram Gopal Varma has given Hindi cinema some very memorable films. But the filmmaker is not new to controversies. The Satya filmmaker has found himself in a legal soup yet again and this time it is due to his next release, Murder.
Murder is allegedly based on true life events of a man called Pranay Kumar’s honour killing in 2018 in the Nalgonda district. It is now being reported that Pranay’s father has filed a petition against Ram Gopal Varma for this film.
A certain report of PTI has quoted a district police officer on the same saying, “We have booked filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma following a court order for his upcoming movie ‘Murder’, which is based on sensational caste-based Pranay Kumar’s murder that occurred in Miryalguda, Nalgonda District in September 2018. Pranay’s father Balaswamy has filed a petition in Nalgonda Court stating that the film will affect the on-going trial of Pranay’s murder case and the film should be stalled. We’ve registered a case under the relevant section of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act and taken up the investigation.”

Now, reacting to these news reports Ram Gopal Varma has posted a series of Tweets. The filmmaker has stated that while Murder is based on true events, it is not the truth. “With regard to media speculations on the case filed on my film MURDER, I once again want to reiterate that my film is based and inspired by a true incident and it is not the truth. Also, there’s no mention of anyone’s caste in the film. With regard to the case filed on the basis of uninformed speculations, our advocates will give an appropriate reply as required by law.”
