It hasn’t been too often that a popular Hindi sitcom has been made into a film, barring Jamnadas Majethia’s Khichdi: The Movie which was based on a TV franchise by the same name. The movie had released alongside the Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra starrer Anjaana Anjaani in October 2010 but had performed well at the box office. However, did you know the makers of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah too had plans to make a film based on the show?
Yes, you read that right. Largely revolving around the residents of the Gokuldham society, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is one of the most loved shows on Indian television and features Dilip Joshi, Disha Vakani, Raj Anadkat, Amit Bhatt, Shailesh Lodha and Sunayana Fozdar as the central characters.
Shedding some light, producer Asit Kumarr Modi had said that there is a desire to make a film based on the popular show, however, they will move ahead in that direction only after procuring a good screenplay for the film.

“In TV serial, we include all kinds of tastes, and create situations, but when it comes to film media, we need to have one single story to grip and entertain the audience. TV is TV and film is film. We first need to have a content suitable for a large screen. Once we work out on that, we may definitely go to that media with Tarak Mehta Ooltah Chashmah team,” Modi had informed Desh Gujarat in 2010 when he along with a few actors had visited Ahmedabad to attend a Garba event.
Disha Vakani aka Dayaben Jethalal Gada too was excited about the plan. “Who would not like to go to big screen? Of course, that would be fun,” she had said, adding that Khichdi’s JD Majethia had carved the way for serials to be made into a film and that Tarak Mehta can be the next.
Well, it’s been 10 years now and we are waiting for Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’s film adaptation. We hope this desire of the makers translates into a reality soon.
