Since the last few years, every other South Indian film is being called a pan-India film and I think, it is high time we should call this out and stop this dump in the name of pan-India films. The latest one to join the lot is Pawan Kalyan’s upcoming film They Call Him OG. The Hindi trailer of the film was recently dropped and let me be honest, terrible is an understatement for this trailer!
Helmed by Sujeeth, my first thought looking at the trailer was – Why? Why do we need such badly dubbed Hindi versions first of all. I mean, I can understand that the film has Emraan Hashmi as the antagonist, but even he would not mind his audience not watching this for once!
The Telugu trailer might have impressed the fans, but the Hindi trailer of They Call Him OG is another unnecessary South Indian film starring Pawan Kalyan that will arrive in North India in Hindi in the name of a pan-India film, joining the wave for no reason!
No doubt, Pawan Kalyan’s got a fresh, fierce look, and his swag is just next level. The action sequences are meticulously choreographed and feel raw and brutal, perfectly fitting the film’s tone. Emraan Hashmi‘s entry as the antagonist also sets the mood right! He’s got this calm, menacing vibe that works perfectly against Kalyan’s raw power. The brief glimpses of their face-off suggest a clash of titans, and it’s a rivalry I would have loved to see unfold on the big screen if the dub was right!
The biggest flaw with this trailer is its pacing, which might not beat a snail as well. The hundreds of cuts do not establish any narrative, and at one point, a dialogue in the Hindi trailer says, “Haalaat Kaabu se baahar ho gaye hain.” I would agree that the same has happened with the pan-India wave of films – it has become unnecessary and unwanted!
They Call Him OG is releasing worldwide on September 25. Check out the trailer of the film here.
