Shubman Gill is one of the top rising cricketers in India. For the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, Gill was the vice-captain of the team. In 2018, the right-handed batmans joined the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He played for the team till 2021, and in 2022, he joined Gujarat Titans.
In 2018, in an interview, Shubman Gill shared his excitement of being a part of the IPL team. The year 2018 was quite interesting for SRK’s team. Firstpost asked Shuman about his thoughts on the 2018 IPL season overall. Gill said, “I think it was a very good season for me, individually as well as for KKR. When the tournament started, we were not the favourites, and nobody rated us highly. But the way we started and ended the season, it was very good.”
The Indian cricketer added how they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the very end of the tournament. Gill believed that KKR exceeded the expectations of a lot of people. He also praised the then-captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, Dinesh Karthik, for his outstanding leading skills. Overall, Shubman thought that it was a pleasing season.
In the same interview, cricketer Shubman Gill was asked what areas he would like to improve his game. In his answer, Gill said he would like to finish matches like Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The Gujarat Titans’ captain said, “I think I need to improve my power game. Also, I would like to learn to finish matches like Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni). Obviously, such things come with experience, and I am sure I will learn as I play along. But it is important to practice these things.”

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans team have played two matches at the IPL 2024 so far. The team won one match and lost one. It would be interesting to see how the team performs this year. It has also been six years since Shubman gave the above interview. Time and again, he proved his brilliant sportsman skills. So we can’t wait to see him get his Dhoni moment in his career soon.
