Shah Rukh Khan has always expressed his interest and love for sports, especially the game of cricket. Hence, when the Indian Premier League (IPL) started in 2008, the superstar decided to invest in Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He is the co-owner of the franchise or team, along with Juhi Chawla and her husband Jay Mehta.

“Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo Re” is an anthem that every KKR and SRK fan has grown up dancing to. So far, Shah Rukh Khan’s team has won the IPL trophy twice – in 2012 and 2014. Now that IPL 2024 is going on, fans hope the superstar’s team lifts the trophy for the third time.

Shah Rukh Khan is often asked interesting questions about the decisions he makes. So when he decided to co-own KKR, many wondered if that was his new business. In 2010, the Dunki actor was asked whether his intention to start a business was to make money. SRK said in the interview that he didn’t buy an IPL team to earn crores of money. He can make money by dancing at weddings.

Shah Rukh Khan told Business Today Magazine, “No, that is not the main reason. I didn’t buy an IPL team to make crores of rupees. For two years now, we have made a profit, but not because of the cricket! My theory is simple: If I am going to be earning from a business that is not working because of the business, then it is redundant. This is where I feel I have a certain amount of honesty left in my business.”

“I still haven’t sold my soul. If my team is not going to play good cricket this year, then woe be upon the fact that they make money this year. It amounts to zilch. I can make money by dancing at weddings, and I do. Why do I have to stress about the controversies, and feel sad when the team loses?,” added the superstar.

Meanwhile, the first IPL 2024 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SH) was held on March 23. SRK and Juhi’s team won by four runs at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Another match will be held on March 29 between KKR and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
