Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy are headed for a divorce after almost five years of marital bliss. The 33-year old fashion designer has been trying to file a divorce from her husband Olivier since April, but due to the on-going Coronavirus crisis, she hasn’t been able to.
Mary-Kate is allegedly seeking an emergency order to allow her to file the legal paperwork. The couple is yet to publicly confirm the news themselves.
Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy (half brother of Nicolas Sarkozy, former President of France) first started dating in 2012, and later they quietly tied the knot in November 2015. The two were pretty private when it comes to their relationship and the last time the two made a public appearance together was in May 2019 at the International Global Champions Tour in Madrid.
According to media reports, the situation is complicated between the couple. Olivier Sarkozy has apparently forced his wife to move out of the New York City apartment they shared by terminating their lease without alerting her. His lawyers told her to get out May 18 but that is not enough time to get her property together so she asked them for an extension until May 30. She has reportedly not heard back.
The reports also suggest that Mary-Kate Olsen felt stuck so she filed a divorce petition so that her ‘property would be protected.’ A divorce petition automatically prevents her from throwing her property out.
Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy do not have any children together. However, Olivier already has two teenage children – Julien and Margot – whom he had with ex-wife Charlotte Bernard.
