Aquaman 2 has had a challenging journey so far. The film landed into controversy majorly because of its female lead, Amber Heard, who was facing a boycott due to her legal drama with her ex-husband, Johnny Depp. After multiple delays, Jason Momoa, Nicole Kidman, and the team will finally arrive on 20 December 2023. But the ridiculously short run-time is currently grabbing headlines along with James Wan talking about the possibilities of Aquaman 3. Scroll below for all the details!
For the longest time, there was suspense around whether Amber Heard would continue to be a part of the DCEU film after she lost the defamation case against Johnny Depp. Millions of petitions were signed against her involvement. While Warner Bros did not axe her role as Mera, it has reportedly been drastically reduced. In fact, the storyline is said to have been changed along the lines of “brotherhood,” and there will be little to no romantic sequences.
As per a reliable MCU insider, Dion Rakic, on Instagram, Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom has a rumored run-time of 1 hour and 57 minutes. Brutal editing could be one of the possible reasons behind it, as insiders claim a love-making scene between Jason Momoa and Amber Heard has been removed. In addition, one of the action sequences featuring Arthur Curry will no longer be a part of the final cut.

In the other world, James Wan, in an interview with Empire, broke silence on the possibilities of Aquaman 3. He said, “I haven’t directed a third movie [in a series] before, so I’d be open to doing another [Aquaman] if I got the same freedom I’ve had on these first two. I’m not sure what direction [Gunn and Safran] are going in, though, so who knows? I’ve learned to never say never.”
Aquaman 2 will be the final movie in the DC Extended Universe before James Wan and Peter Safran kickstart their new universe with Superman: Legacy in 2025.
Meanwhile, Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom also stars Patrick Wilson and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
