Mohenjo Daro has turned out to be a loss making proposition for all those who invested in it. The film just couldn’t rise from its low start and then further went down as the week progressed. This reflected in the first week collections of just 51.18 crore, which is on the same lines as Ranbir Kapoor’s Besharam [50 crore] – a debacle.

That film went on to end its lifetime run at the 60 crore and though the Hrithik Roshan starrer would do better, that would be just about it. In any case, Mohenjo Daro is a better film than Besharam but then latter had fallen from a very high point while Mohenjo Daro has just about chugged on.

In fact the film’s trending is on the same lines as Hrithik Roshan’s another ambitious film, Kites. The Anurag Basu directed film, when released in 2010, had collected 40 crore in its Week One and then closed at 50 crore. Now the Ashutosh Gowariker film has collected 10 crore more in its first week and would end its run around 60 crore.

While the industry has indeed gained from the super success of Rustom, it has bled to a good extent due to Mohenjo Daro not doing well at all. In fact in July it was Great Grand Masti that ran into heavy losses and now Mohenjo Daro has suffered similarly in August.

Hopefully, that would be the last of the debacles in 2016 which has seen one of the biggest commercial disappointments in Fan early this year. With several biggies lining up for release from now till the end of year, the industry can certainly do with more successes coming its way.
