Despite the fact that Mary Kom is produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, it is Priyanka Chopra who has led from the front as far as marketing and promotional plans of the film are concerned. The leading lady has taken a relentless approach in making sure that the film stays in news for weeks in succession. With Priyanka being visible all over, the film has seen gradual hype building around and is pretty much at its peak, now that it is set to play on screens.

As a result, the film is now set to open quite well at least in multiplexes of the big cities. At these centers, Mary Kom can expect footfalls in the range of 50%-60%, though at smaller centers and single screens, it would all boil down to the word of mouth. Moreover, the film has started getting tax-free status in some of the prominent states and it won’t be surprising if more states join too if the reviews are good and audience give it a thumbs-up too.
The film also benefits from the fact that there is no competition whatsoever around it. Singham Returns and Mardaani are almost through with their run, Raja Natwarlal has just not picked up and there is no other release alongside it.
In a season where at least two major films arrive every weekend, Mary Kom is enjoying a solo release for itself, which is the best case scenario that only a few fortunate ones enjoy. The stage is all set for Priyanka Chopra and team to enjoy a good innings ahead and now it all boils down to the content that first time director Omung Kumar has to offer.
