Shahid Kapoor seems in sync with Haider but when the first trailer was launched Shraddha Kapoor was a surprise in a film that isn’t like the projects she had done. Vishal Bhardwaj films are earned and she must have gone right somewhere to have bagged it for herself. The wonderstruck actress confessed to Koimoi that the film, the role and the experience is all to special for her.
She said, “When you do a Vishal Bhardwaj film, it is a career changing move. Be it with Kareena Kapoor or Priyanka Chopra or Konkana Sen Sharma, it has happened with them. Vishal Sir can change the chapter in a heroine’s life. For me to get a career changing opportunity like that feels very special. I finally feel like I deserve this.”
But when you are in the same film as Tabu, there is a fair chance that you might get unnoticed. The enigma and her potential is so mesmeric that everyone gets overshadowed. Shraddha doesn’t mind at all. She has full faith on Vishal’s vision.
She added, “It’s (Haider) similar to Omkara where Omkara was the central character. Haider is the central character here. Rest of us are ensemble cast here. Haider is very true to Hamlet and the roles have been kept intact just their backgrounds have been changed. So if you compare this film to my previous ones where it is more a hero heroine based affair, this is clearly ensemble film. I was very well aware of the fact that I won’t be seen in every frame persay here, so my role is not very lengthy here but it is a very intense part. For the first time I am doing anything in this zone. As far taking the cake here in concerned, even if I get a tiny slice, I am happy. Tabu Ma’am has a dream role. And nobody else can play it except her.”
Haider stars Shraddha as a righteous journalist named Arshiya who is writing an article on the backdrop of the 90s’ insurgency in Kashmir. The film is an adaptation of Hamlet and stars Shahid Kapoor in the titular role.
