Viacom18 and Paramount Pictures International today announced a business alliance for India. Under the alliance, Viacom18 will distribute the much awaited Michael Bay’s Transformers: Dark Of The Moon, Steven Speilberg’s Super 8 and Mission Impossible 4 in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Haresh Chawla, Group CEO – Viacom 18, Andrew Cripps, President, Paramount Pictures International, and Vikram Malhotra, COO – Viacom 18 Motion Pictures made the announcement today. “Filmed Entertainment is core to mass entertainment franchises, like Colors, that we are building at Viacom18… This strategic alliance with a global major like Paramount Pictures will open up myriad possibilities that will help us further strengthen our presence in this space.” Sharing his perspective on the strategic alliance, Andrew Cripps, said: “This is a step change for Paramount in one of the fastest growing and most exciting markets internationally. We are very proud to be associated with them and look forward to continuing to grow and expand Paramount’s presence in India.”
Aiming to significantly change the way Hollywood movies are marketed and distributed in India, Viacom18 has already created an independent operating unit to handle the Paramount Pictures business. Viacom18 Motion Pictures has the hit Tanu Weds Manu to its credit. Its also has Pyaar Ka Punchnama (releasing on May 20th) and Anurag Kashyap’s Shaitan on June 10th in the pipeline. They have also managed to rope-in Dabangg director Abhinav Kashyap for a film.
