Veteran Bollywood actor Sanjay Khan once was so angry after a fight with Shatrughan Sinha that he demanded a gun at 5 a.m., as revealed by Khan’s confidante and close friend Bob Christo in his autobiography, Flashback: My Life and Times in Bollywood and Beyond.
Bob Christo was a known Bollywood face who played many villain roles in the 1980s. Before Sanjay Khan took him under his wing, Christo built sets in Cambodia for Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now.
He was extremely close to Sanjay Khan and once witnessed a violent altercation between Khan and Shatrugan Sinha at actor Ranjeet’s house. Acclaimed director Subhash Ghai was also present at the gathering, and they were having drinks.
Bob wrote that he and Prem Chopra, Ranjeet, and Subhash Ghai witnessed this brawl. , “I am not interested in fights; as long as I’m not involved, I keep out of the way. However, Sanjay was my friend, and whatever Shatru said did not go down well with Sanjay,” Christo wrote in his book.
He said the situation escalated and the other people at the scene sided with Shatrughan. This he said, prompted him to stand for his friend Sanjay. He said one person in the middle of the fight went to the kitchen and devised a knife. Bob wrote that he disarmed that person, and soon he and Sanjay left the place.
However, the situation was far from over. He wrote that after a few hours the same day, he received a call from Sanjay at 5 a.m. Sanjay said, “Come over and bring Betsy,” our code word for ‘gun.’
He added that Sanjay claimed shots were fired from Ranjit’s property toward his bungalow, with at least two shots also fired from outside Sanjay’s front gate.
The two then investigated who it could be. They also interviewed Sanjay’s guards, but he hadn’t seen anything. Then they collected bullets and cartridges and handed them over to the cops when they arrived.
Later, Bob revealed that Subhash Ghai spent a day in lock-up before being bailed out. Following this, a meeting of industry ‘seniors’ was convened, and Bob noted that the issue was resolved, leading to Shatrughan earning the nickname ‘Shotgun.
However, Shatrughan Sanjay Khan or any other person involved in the matter has never addressed the incident. Sanjay’s late friend Bob Christo detailed it in his book.
