IPL franchise Kings XI, partly owned by Preity Zinta, moved the Bombay high court on November 11, challenging the decision of the BCCI to terminate its contract. The BCCI had cited violations in the shareholding and franchise contracts of Kings XI as the reason and scrapped it from the tournament. Kings XI’s petition rests on a letter addressed by Preity on behalf of the consortium on February 9, 2008 to Lalit Modi, then chairman of IPL, in which she had expressed their intention to incorporate a company in which the original bidders (the consortium members) would ultimately hold stakes. The letter shows Lalit Modi writing ‘go ahead’ and signing it.

The petition will come up for hearing on November 15 when the high court will reopen after Diwali vacation.
