Film insurance may be in its nascent stage in Bollywood but that has not prevented producer Jayantilal Gada from insuring his under-production film, the animated Mahabharat, for – hold your breath! – Rs.50 crore. Gada wanted to give the animated characters in the epic film faces of leading Bollywood stars but was not sure if the stars in question would accept his strategy.
Fearing legal problems if some actors objected to the idea of their faces being associated with the characters of the epic drama, the producer decided to insure his film. The good news, however, is that the actors, which include many big names in Bollywood, have not just given Gada permission to make the animated characters look like themselves but have also dubbed their dialogues so that the voices match the faces. Jayantilal Gada had insured the film for such a fancy amount to tide over a situation wherein stars would claim damages from him for using their faces.
