Very few Bollywood actors have probably been as active as Amitabh Bachchan, who is on a roll even in his 60s. The super star, who turns 68 today (11th October, 2010) has been shooting for a movie and his hit television game show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’.
Amitabh has a special reason to smile this year: he bagged his fourth National Award for the movie Paa. Amitabh Bachchan’s performance as 13-year-old progeria affected boy earned him rave reviews and also his fifth Filmfare Award for Best Actor. What was more surprising was that Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh’s son, played reel life father to Big B in the movie!
Talking of path breaking roles, Amitabh began his career in films in 1969 in Saat Hindustani, but shot to prominence only in the 70s as the Angry Young Man of Indian cinema. Beginning with Prakash Mehra’s Zanjeer, he continued the successful character in films like Namak Haraam and Deewar. Though Amitabh is self-made and has even made a few comebacks, the reason behind the real head start he got was recently revealed by writer Salim Khan. Salim Khan said that Amitabh had, in fact, been recommended by the writer in ‘Zanjeer’, a film which led to the Big B’s eventual rise in Bollywood. Looks like Amitabh needs to send a few thank you notes…
