Due to the global pandemic of COVID-19, the government has put up many restrictions on the shoot of television shows. Among so many restrictions, one restriction is that the show producers cannot allow an actor more than 65 years of age on the sets. This restriction has enraged the senior actor Kanwaljit Singh.
The 69 years old actor who was currently working on the show Sandwich has been replaced by a younger actor. Disheartened Kanwaljit Singh has recently spoken to Film Information, “So what do actors like me do? Hang up our boots? How can I be asked NOT to work?”
Kanwaljit Singh further clarified that he does not have anything against the new actor or the television channel. He demanded that the rule that prohibits senior actors to shoot should be demolished. Egregiously, ‘Dil Deke Dekho’ actor asked, “Will the authorities wake up when one senior actor, in depression for being out of work, commits suicide?”

He further added, “Not every senior actor or unit member is well placed enough to tide over these difficult times by simply sitting at home, not working. Most of them need to work, some for financial reasons, others for the sheer love of work”
Kanwaljit Singh’s fate is shared by all senior actors including Prithvi Zutshi whose character track got terminated from the serial ‘Pyar ki Luka Chupi’
The veteran actor raised a very valid question. He asked why the rule was only implemented on the artists.
Zutshi argued, “There are shopkeepers who interact daily with customers, politicians who conduct rallies and visit hospitals. Many of them fall in this age group, but are allowed to get on with their lives”
Do you think the resolution that prohibits senior actors from the set is the right one?
