Pirates of the Caribbean may see Johnny Depp once again steering the Black Pearl, though nothing is set in stone. Depp led all five films in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise from 2003 to 2017, each earning more than $650 million worldwide, with two entries breaking the $1 billion mark. The series has pulled in around $4.5 billion globally, with Jack Sparrow’s eccentric swagger becoming one of cinema’s most recognizable creations.
Johnny Depp’s Possible Return As Captain Jack Sparrow In Pirates Of The Caribbean 6
The movie’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, has spoken with Depp about a possible return for the sixth film and says it depends on whether the script meets the actor’s standards. “If he likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it,” Bruckheimer said in an interview, per Collider.
“It’s all about what’s on the page, as we all know… We are still working on a screenplay. We want to make it. We just got to get the right screenplay. We haven’t quite gotten there yet, but we’re close.”

Johnny Depp’s Highly Anticipated Hollywood Comeback
The talk of Depp’s comeback has lingered since his public fallout with Disney and his legal disputes, but after the 2022 defamation trial with Amber Heard, the actor has been making a measured return to Hollywood, including his upcoming role in the action-thriller Day Drinker.
Two Pirates Of The Caribbean Projects In Development
The journey to a sixth Pirates film has been slow. In 2020, Disney started developing two separate projects, a reboot with Margot Robbie and a continuation of the original saga co-written by Ted Elliott and Craig Mazin. Robbie later said her project had been shelved, though Bruckheimer believes both can still happen.
Jeff Nathanson, who wrote Dead Men Tell No Tales, has now joined the sixth film and delivered what Bruckheimer calls a strong third act, though earlier parts of the story still need more work. It remains unclear if Nathanson’s version builds on Mazin’s earlier draft or starts fresh, but Bruckheimer makes it clear that Depp’s return is still possible. He calls the actor a close friend and credits him with creating the Captain Jack Sparrow audiences know, which is a portrayal born entirely from Depp’s own interpretation rather than the script.
