Queen (2014)
A heartbroken bride, whose marriage is called off, decides to leave for her honeymoon all alone. On her journey she rediscovers herself and that’s what makes the story of Queen. The movie’s core is simplicity and realistic story telling. Along with marvellous performance by Kangana Ranaut and the entire starcast, what worked for this film was the story. Kangana Ranaut starrer, Vikas Bhal directorial Queen was one of the films with best story in 2014.
2 States (2014)
A North Indian boy and a South Indian girl fall in love and what follows are some cultural dilemmas, clash of thoughts and beliefs. The movie was an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s novel of the same name, which is his personal story and what makes the movie so acceptable is that the story was real. The story was the hero here which pulled off the film beautifully. Love story at its heart and the two regional animosities was well brought up in the movie. Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor starrer, Abhishek Verman directorial 2 States takes a spot in our list of nominations for film with best story 2014.
Holiday (2014)
The story was thrilling and kept the mind of the audience in check. With some occasional entertainment, this film’s story worked really well with an intense subject like a sleeper cell. The Holiday movie villain, Freddy Daruwala was impressive as well. The story went back and forth and that kept the audience guessing about the next very moment. Surely Holiday managed well because of this well-crafted story that helped it to be one of the best in 2014. Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha starrer, A. R Murugadoss directorial, Holiday makes it to our list of nominations for film with best story 2014.
Ek Villain (2014)
Ek Villain was a revenge story. It was not a suspense thriller, we knew the killer, but what we did not know was his story. Ek Villain is all about the chase to catch the Villain and discover his cause. The climax was beautiful and the story was well written which helped in making the film so intriguing. Sidharth Malhotra, Shraddha Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh starrer, Mohit Suri directorial, Ek Villain takes a spot in our list of nominations for film with best story 2014.
Mardaani (2014)
A woman super cop on a mission to track child trafficking racket, and a young criminal with a sharp mind and perfect planning leads to a chase game. With such a serious issue at the core, the story and the screenplay was very well presented. Mardaani was exceptionally hard hitting story and hence, this Rani Mukerji film directed by Pradeep Sarkar deserves a place in our list of nominations for film with best story 2014.
Haider (2014)
Musical adaptation of Shakespearian drama Hamlet is what Haider was all about. There are only a rare talent who can bring out the Shakespearian perspective so well and Vishal Bhardwaj is one of those rare. The story of this dark drama was the pillar of success followed by phenomenal performance by Shahid Kapoor and all the other actors, who played their part at par. The list of nominations of films with best story would be incomplete without Haider.
PK (2014)
Rajkumar Hirani’s movies are known for its unique story telling. Even though the subjects are light in its content, the story telling is engaging. PK too was loved because it had a story to tell the audience, a story of an alien who comes to Earth on a research mission, befriends a television journalist and questions religious dogmas and superstitions. PK had a long run of four weeks and went on making and breaking box office records.
Ugly (2014)
Anurag Kashyap films needs no big name to work, the stories are the real heroes of his films, and it was same with Ugly. A mean, dark and unsettling film that garnered praises at various international film festivals and of course received positive reviews in its home country. Ugly for its brave nature and bold content makes it to our list of nominations for film with best story 2014.
