The Industry has been mourning the demise of actor Pankaj Dheer, who immortalized the character of Karna in BR Chopra’s Mahabharat. The show is still one of the most loved series on Indian Television. It first aired on Doordarshan from October 2, 1988, to June 24, 1990. In a span of these two years and almost 94 episodes, it turned all its stars into superstars!
Mahabharat Actors & Their Salary
All the actors of Mahabharat were paid almost Rs 3000 per episode. So, basically, all the main actors of the series earned almost2.82 lakh from the show, which starred Mukesh Khanna as Bhishma Pitamah, Nitish Bharadwaj as Lord Krishna, Firoz Khan as Arjuna, Puneet Issar as Duryodhana, and Roopa Ganguly as Draupadi.

While the main leads of Mahabharat might have earned almost 2.5 – 2.8 lakh, depending on the number of episodes they shot for, Pankaj Dheer’s total earnings for Mahabharat might have been less since his character arrives much later in the series.
The actor has been a part of many notable series on Doordarshan, including Chandrakanta, a fantasy drama, and Yug, a period drama from the days of the Independence struggle! But none could match the brilliance of Karna from BR Chopra’s Mahabharat.
Pankaj Dheer’s Family
Pankaj Dheer died battling Cancer and is survived by a son, Nikitin Dheer, and a daughter-in-law, Kritika Sengar, both renowned names of the Indian Film and Television Fraternity! While Nikitin rose to fame with Rohit Shetty’s Chennai Express, Kratika portrayed Rani Lakshibai in a TV series.
On television, Pankaj Dheer was last seen in Sony TV’s Dhruv Tara – Samay Sadi Se Pare. His last film arrived in 2016, titled Kaptaan. It was a Punjabi film starring Gippy Grewal in the lead.
