“When I first got the diagnosis I was shocked for sure. But, at least I could understand why I would be onstage and in a massive amount of nerve pain or, just feeling crazy fatigue or sickness. I was faced with a personal decision. Stop touring? Or, keep going and figure it out. I decided the joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling. I’m so glad I kept going”

In response to the spread of speculation, which included assertions that Timberlake was actually suffering from long-COVID instead, musician and podcaster Dana Parrish spoke at length about the devastating impact Lyme disease had on her, and called on fans to stop trivializing its severity.
Avril Lavigne Has Also Spoken Up About Lyme Disease
Before Justin Timberlake, Avril Lavigne had revealed her Lyme disease diagnosis in 2015, characterizing it as one of the most difficult moments of her life. At that point, she’d resolved to increase awareness of the disease and make the most of her recovery. The Canadian popstar’s experience with the disease even served as the inspiration for her 2018 single, “Head Above Water”.
Avril Lavigne claimed that her struggles with Lyme disease were a major reason for her extended hiatus from public life following her self-titled 2013 album. Speaking to People magazine, she recounted her ordeal in heartwrenching detail:
“I was bedridden for five months. I felt like I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t talk and I couldn’t move. I thought I was dying.”
Avril also revealed that her doctors had been struggling to properly diagnose her for quite some time, exacerbating her troubles. Her harrowing story emphasizes the need to better understand and raise awareness about Lyme disease, something that Lyme Disease Awareness Month aims to do in May of every year.
