Tenet: Christopher Nolan’s Directorial APPROVED To Release Theatrically In China, Deets Inside

Christopher Nolan’s Tenet has been in the news continuously owing to its release schedule. From being postponed again and again, to makers opting for international release first, there’s a lot we have been hearing about the much-awaited film.
Now the latest development is that the upcoming biggie has been approved for theatrical release in China. Isn’t that big?
In fact, according to Variety’s report, the makers have also released Chinese versions of Tenet’s posters. The English tagline “time runs out” has been swapped to “make every second count; invade the theaters.” which is a way to tell the audience to come back to cinemas.
Meanwhile, in China, the theatres opened from July 20 by following strict rules of social distancing. As per the guidelines, the 44% theatres that have re-opened will be able to run at a maximum of 30% occupancies. The number of screenings is also suggested to be reduced to half. But there is one factor which can pose a problem for Tenet and that is National Film Bureau’s guideline suggesting not screen films which are longer than 2 hours. Tenet is 2 hours 31 minutes longer.
But it’s not like that this directive is being followed. Chinese authorities have approved films longer than 2 hours to be screened and these include Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Nolan’s Interstellar. Local film Operation Red Sea was also played despite being longer than 2 hours in duration.
Coming back to Tenet, the release date of the film in China will be out soon. Apart from China, the film will also release in around 70 countries starting on August 26, including the U.K., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea and Russia. It will have a selective release in the USA over Labor Day weekend from September 3. The film stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Dimple Kapadia and others in pivotal roles.
