Where the original leaned into creepy charm, with its viral android dance and weird energy, the new version felt more like a budget-friendly Terminator. That shift in tone seemed to confuse fans more than excite them.
M3GAN 2.0 opened soft at $10million domestically, a big drop from the original’s strong $30 million weekend. The reviews did not help either, as it sat in the middle with a 57%Rotten Tomatoes score and little buzz outside its core fanbase. The new approach drew comparisons to Terminator 2, but the change in tone didn’t connect.

Black Phone 2 and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 are carrying a lot of expectations, especially since both original films were solid hits.
