In 2005, an unusual film called Salaam Namaste hit the theaters. Given the time, it was bold to show live in relationships in commercial cinema and out of wedlock pregnancy was another step ahead. The film marked Siddharth Anand’s debut as a filmmaker in Bollywood. And it was a memorable film for its kind. Koimoi compiles for you Siddharth’s track record as a director.

Salaam Namaste starring Saif Ali Khan and Priety Zinta, was made by YRF on a relatively small budget. It became a hit and recovered its investment from the domestic box office. The film fared better in overseas markets and clearly quite liked by the audiences.

Ta Ra Rum Pum in 2007 was just the opposite. Starring Saif Ali Khan alongside Rani Mukerji, the film was a sappy tale. The film did not fare exceedingly well and opened to low numbers. In the domestic market the film only raked in from the multiplexes whereas the single screens completely shunned the film.

In 2008, Siddharth made Ranbir Kapoor starrer Bachna Ae Haseeno which was eventually declared a hit. Made in a budget of 18 crores, the film roughly made a business in the range of 60 crores at the domestic box office. Starring Ranbir Kapoor alongside his then girlfriend Deepika Padukone, this film too was a crowd puller.

In 2010, Siddharth made Anjaana Anjaani with Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. Made on a budget of 43 crores, the film failed to recover its investment from the domestic box office. Rated negatively by most, the film failed to perform well.

Siddharth might have had poor luck once in a while but Bang Bang is mounted with the demeanor of being declared a hit. All set to release in over 3000 screens, the film though releases alongside Haider, it will work well in commercial zones and single screens. Hrithik and Katrina’s irresistible chemistry is a hit already and this film will run on everything it promises.
