Yet another cop on the block is Aamir Khan who has slipped into the role of Inspector Shekhawat for his forthcoming suspense thriller, “Talaash”. Aamir who is returning to big screen after a successful stint in television with “Satyamev Jayate” has reloaded the lean cop look with thick moustache for the flick. Aamir is seen investigating a murder in the trailer of the film as a cop with Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji. But the cop role isn’t exactly new to Mr. Perfectionist. He had last played the role of hard-hitting cop in his film, Sarfarosh garnering accolades.

With Aamir’s return to the uniform genre a lot of speculations are on the ripe and no wonder expectations skyrocketing. In the recent times, Bollywood has witnessed the “Khakee wardi” hits and we surely do relate Aamir’s latest initiative to the string of recent Khakee hits.

The unquestionable mention of the recent trend of cops in uniform owes it to the Khan of the masses, Salman Khan who whipped up a tornado with his “Dabaang” and made Chulbul ‘Robin Hood’ Pandey a household name. Salman surely knows how to do it in style.

And speaking of the sturdy police officer how can we forget Ajay Devgn. The intense actor had essayed the raw officer in Prakash Jha’s “Gangajal” and recently reignited the cop role in the blockbuster “Singham”.

And when some action is involved can the Khiladi be far behind? Well Akshay Kumar has delivered hits early in his career with “Mohra”, “Main Khildi Tu Anari” playing police officer and with “Rowdy Rathore” his return to cophood saw yet another marvel at the Box Office.

Well to sum it up the trending of the Khakee hero can be traced to the iconic movie Zanjeer (1973) with the legendary superstar Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. Big B’s role as the angry young police inspector, Vijay Khanna in Zanjeer made the critics take notice of him and his journey as the man in uniform followed in many of the films of his career like Phir Hera Pheri (1976) and many others. Khakee (2004) an action film with the same name saw the teaming up of Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar and Tushar Kapoor as officers on a mission. Even junior Bachchan is not behind in the uniform race; Abhishek famed for his cop role in the Dhoom series had donned the uniform in his film Zameen (2003).

The list of movies with resolute, daring and heroic cops is listless in Bollywood. And the recent trend of the uniformed cops making a blockbuster in the box office is quite unavoidable. Be it Salman, Ajay and Akshay all have tried and tasted the success of the cop in his uniform formula. And when the whole industry is hoopla about the Khakee avatar the Badshah of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan has well tried an altered version of the uniform. In the upcoming Yash Chopra romance, “Jab Tak Hai Jaan”, SRK looks dapper in his Military outfit and makes a  eye popping comeback into the uniform look after Main Hoon Na, Bhootnath and Veer-Zaara. So yet another impending competition of the Khans we see.

Up till now the stakes seem quite high and whether uniform or no uniform, the perfectionist, Aamir has already drawn huge hits with the film’s trailer in social networking sites and is making all the right waves. And what remains to be seen is how easily Aamir carries off the mustachioed cop avatar in the Reema Khagti thriller. So for all the Aamir fans here is a suspense flick eagerly worth the wait.
