The function to release the music of UTV and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish on 20th October was quite a weird affair. For, the cast and crew of the film showered such praises on the filmmaker, who is also the film’s debutmaking music director, that it seemed like he had already conquered with the film. Such encomiums as were used by Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai, Aditya Roy Kapoor (who, besides acting in the film, also compered the function), lyricists and singers would have befitted the silver jubilee or success function of the film. But they did look out of place for a function held to mark the release of the music. For one, since the music was being released that day, it wasn’t as if the invitees had already heard and loved the songs. Secondly, when the audience was clueless about how good the music would turn out to be – music, one would agree, takes time to grow on the listener – it didn’t understand the logic of the people associated with the film going on and on about what a genius Bhansali was and what a great filmmaker he was and how blessed they all were to be working with him and how their work in this film was going to be their best and so on and so forth.
