Tabu is one of the few actresses of Hindi Cinema who have been unfortunate in love and probably have learned their lesson in the hardest way. The actress was once rumored to be in a relationship for a long time with South Indian superstar Akkineni Nagarjuna but decided to take a step back when she realized that he might not marry her ever.
Nagarjuna, on the other hand, was happily married to his second wife Amala, who was also a Telugu star and had done quite a few films with him. However, when he starred in films like Aavida Maa Aavide, Ninne Pelladata, and Sisindri, the on-screen pair instantly hit it off, and they created quite a friendship.
Some say that it escalated into love quickly, while others believe they were mere gossip. However, Tabu once addressed the same when she appeared on Koffee with Karan and hinted at the actor as her former boyfriend. The Crew actress said that the media wants to create an image that no matter how many boyfriends come and go, she is still in love with the actor.
She was even asked about her relocating to Hyderabad, the reason being Nagarjuna. The Andhadhun actress said, “Not because of him. It is because I made a house for myself there and because I belong to Hyderabad.” However, she chose to call Nagarjuna a close friend, in fact, one of the closest people in her life.
Earlier, once upon a time, in an interview with the Times Of India, Nagarjuna‘s wife Amala opened up on her husband’s alleged affair with Tabu and said, “Tabu is one of the persons, besides Danny Denzongpa, my Rakhi brother, from Mumbai who I am in touch with. And, yes, she stays with us when she comes here.”
She further said, “Nothing will shake this belief. Nobody should bother about what happens under my roof. I am happy. And before you ask whether my husband and I have discussed this – never. My home is sacred, like a temple, and I don’t allow anything unpleasant from the film industry to come in, especially filthy gossip. I don’t encourage such talks. I feel it will contaminate my house.”
Nagarjuna and Amala have been married since 1992 and have a son, Akhil Akkineni. Naga Chaitanya Akkineni is Nagarjuna’s son from his first marriage with Laxmi Daggubati, who is Venkatesh’s sister.
As for Tabu, the actress never married and has been enjoying professional highs in her career.
