Though 3D films are a norm in Hollywood, out here in Bollywood there are still just a handful of Hindi films that are presented in 3D. Hence, it is a pleasant surprise indeed to see upcoming release Welcome To New York arrive in 3D.

“Since the film has IIFA as the backdrop, the makers felt that it would be good to showcase the event’s wide canvas in 3D no less,” comments an insider, “The plans were formulated there and then when the film was being shot simultaneously with the event in progress.”

What makes this further special is the fact that it is for the first time ever that a comedy film is arriving in 3D.

“Recent release Padmaavat was an action drama and hence had good scope for 3D. Then there have been action films like Ra. One and Don 2 in 3D as well. Vikram Bhatt too has made his horror films in 3D, case in point being films like Haunted and Creature. However one can’t recollect any comedy film been made in 3D. It is going to a new experience altogether for the audience,” a film expert adds.
