The music of Prakash Jha’s next directorial Satyagraha is created by ensemble bunch of musicians! Beginning with duo of Salim-Suleiman, the album also has tracks from Meet Bros. and Indian Ocean, along with Aadesh Shrivastava. Prasoon Joshi has indeed done a fabulous job with the lyrics of each song but it is a hard call whether the musicians have translated the lyrics into music with as much neatness in terms of tunes.
Raghupati Raghav – Satyagraha Music Review
Since the film is a social drama, it is important that the songs build the right social climate. Somehow despite flaws, this song will leave you with goose flesh. The lyrics take credit for making this song so spectacular as it fits in so well with present social scenario. The song strikes the right nationalist chord as it brings in the aura of Gandhi which has tainted itself over time. Singers give a touch of urbane to the chant and the end product is nothing short of stellar.
Aiyo Ji – Satyagraha Music Review
This was a wonderful track that has the essence of thumri in it. But the musicians surely made it warped by adding the unneeded dash of electric beats in a flute based song. Shraddha Pandit croons marvelously but the song was already butchered in its conception!
Raske Bhare Tore Naina – Satyagraha Music Review
Shafqat Amanat Ali gets the Bhairav raag right and correctly infuses the thumri feel into it. But once again the song’s chorus is absolutely inappropriate as there’s a disturbing lingering heavy voice of female distorting the classic feel of it. There was no need for this to be fished out and vanquished!
Janta Rocks – Satyagraha Music Review
I have always been all of praise for Joshi’s songs. Every song from Rang De Basanti is still fresh in our memories not only for Rahman’s music but also for the glistening quality of his lyrics. Janta Rocks is an unintentional spoof which even attempts to joke about Brashtachaar. Janta will surely conk off with this! The song features a bunch of very talented singers who were unceremoniously wasted.
Hum Bhole The – Satyagraha Music Review
Indian Ocean has surely lost the art of being effortless. With guitars strumming a little too heavily, there is a hard hitting political commentary attempted here. The sharp lyrics are poignant and being an ardent fan of Rahul Ram, I simply can’t write this one off. It could have been better but it’s great nevertheless.
The Last Word – Satyagraha Music Review
This film is mostly too many cooks spoil the broth story. Attempting thumri with a rock feel was a bad idea. Scattering their music to varied directors was misjudged. In the end, the film isn’t about music as it is about the story. Music wise, nothing impresses except Raghupati Raghav, but that will soothe only a certain section of the audiences. I am going with a 2/5. Hope the film is a better feat than its music!
