The year 2023 was a year of a phenomenal comeback for Shah Rukh Khan, where he ruled the box office with Pathaan and Jawan’s roaring 500+ crore collections. Now, if reports are to be believed, then Aditya Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan are very much interested in cashing the profit they have made from the newly-born franchise of the Spy Universe, and an idea for Pathaan 2 is being worked upon at a rapid speed.
If all goes well, then SRK and Adi Chopra might start working on Pathaan 2 even before the other Spy Universe films are planned. While Hrithik Roshan’s War 2 is already in the making and a female Spy film with Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh is being planned, YRF is planning a much better timeline for the Spy Universe Films.
After Pathaan’s roaring success, collecting 543 crore at the Indian Box Office and over 1000 crore worldwide, YRF has realized that Shah Rukh Khan is the biggest Spy in this Universe, and people want to see him the most, it seems.
A plan has been formulated immediately for Pathaan 2. A report by Pinkvilla states that Shah Rukh Khan and Aditya Chopra started toying with the idea of Pathaan 2 immediately after the film opened to a roaring success. However, Pathaan 2’s idea will clearly impact Tiger vs. Pathaan, which has currently been put on the back burner.
Tiger VS Pathaan Planned In 2024
It was rumored that Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan had to start the shooting for Tiger VS Pathaan from February – March this year. However, things did not seem to be in place when Salman Khan started shooting for Karan Johar’s The Bull. In fact, even Siddharth Anand, who has to helm the much-awaited face-off, refused to comment on the film recently, and rumors started floating that it has been pushed to 2025.
Tiger 3’s Debacle: A Warning Call?
It seems like the Spy Universe line-up must have been rethought once Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif’s Tiger 3 did not perform as it was expected. While there was a lot of buzz for the film when it was announced and even later when Emraan Hashmi joined the Universe, things did not go smoothly for the film once it was released on Diwali 2023. It was expected that Salman Khan would drop his Tiger glimpse in Pathaan, and the immediate buzz for Tiger VS Pathaan would help Tiger 3 as well. But nothing of the sort happened.
Tiger 3’s Box Office Collection
Tiger 3 managed to collect 286 crore at the box office. Now, this is not that bad a number. But considering the parameter of 500+ crore Pathaan, set for the Spy Universe film, 286 crore was an underwhelming figure. Bhaijaan, being the lead face of the Spy Universe, collected almost 257 crore less. Now, since Tiger and Pathaan need to be on the same pedestal, Tiger 3 underperformed when compared. Hence, YRF started re-chalking the plan for the Spy Universe.
Pathaan 2 To Lay The Ground For Tiger VS Pathaan
It is rumored that Pathaan 2 will now lay the ground for an epic face-off battle between Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Salman Khan’s Tiger and Tiger VS Pathaan would pay off as a film peaking the excitement for the ultimate battle. Till then, the other spies – Kabir, played by Hrithik Roshan in the War franchise, the new antagonist JR NTR in War 2, and the female-led Spy film ft. Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh might also come to a place, making a grand universe for Tiger VS Pathaan, the ultimate Spy Universe film.
Will Deepika Padukone Be The New Lady?
Now, as the intricate plan for Pathaan 2 is being put to order, it would be very interesting to see if Deepika Padukone stays in the Universe as Rubai or leaves the Spy World, making space for a new lady in Pathaan’s life. Also, will Pathaan 2 live up and match the magical number of Pathaan or exceed it? Only time will tell!
