With the pandemic hitting the shores and still going strong, filmmakers have been opting for the digital release of their films. As per the buzz, the latest film to be doing the same is Ali Abbas Zafar produced film Khaali Peeli directed by Maqbool Khan, starring Ishaan Khatter and Ananya Panday. But contrary to the speculations that came in a few days back, the film is not going to Netflix. Read on to know more.
If the reports are to go by, Khaali Peeli will go straight to digital and will be streaming on Zee5. It is being said, that Ali Abbas Zafar was in talks with both Netflix and Zee5. When a good deal was offered by the latter, it was locked.
Talking about the Ananya Panday and Ishaan Khatter starrer, a source in a Bollywood Hungama report said, “The talks were on with Netflix and Zee5, with both the platforms showing keen interest in bagging the rights, however eventually, it’s Zee 5 who has added it to their library. While Ali and his studio partner, Zee Studios, were keen on holding back the film for a theatrical release, the current scenario on ground with respect to nepotism debate made them rethink on the decision and they have finally decided for a direct to digital release.”
