Akshay Kumar is ready to redeem his lost glory at the box office in the year 2024, and while he has been struggling for the last two years, the actor has once upon a time ruled the box office and brought back the phenomenon of middle-budget films working well and bringing a successful year at the box office. This was at a time when none of the Khans and Kapoors were able to deliver and were struggling with numbers.
Akshay’s number game has been strong, with as many as 4 – 5 releases in a single year. However, the post-pandemic world changed a lot of things for actors. In 2022, the superstar had five releases – four theatrical and an OTT release- and none of them churned out numbers at the box office. He started that year with a Holi release, Bachchhan Paandey, followed by Samrat Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan, and Ram Setu. All of them were disasters.
Akshay Kumar changed his luck playing Lord Shiva in OMG 2, but the film’s success was surprisingly shared by Pankaj Tripathi as well. However, the other two releases of 2023, Mission Raniganj and Selfiee, tanked. Now, all eyes are on Akshay Kumar‘s redemption arc beautifully shaping up in 2024.
If Akshay Kumar’s lineup is considered and the pace at which he completes a normal entertainer within 40 – 45 days, the superstar might be ready with nine releases this year that will include two very special cameos as well. Some of these releases have been announced, while some are speculated, and the rest of them are highly anticipated to drop this year as well.
Starting The Year With A Bang
Akshay Kumar will start the year with a bang with Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, also starring Tiger Shroff. The film is said to be one of the biggest action films, riding on around a 300+ crore budget, according to various reports. The film is releasing on Eid and will clash with Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan. If both films find a target audience, then the two superstars might together bring one of the biggest Eid Openings.
2 Major Cameos
The Khiladi superstar will be ready with two brilliant extended cameos. While he makes his Marathi debut in Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat, directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, where he plays Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, he will play DCP Veer Sooryavanshi in Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again.
Nine Sure Shot 100 Crore Entries If All Release This Year
Looking at Akshay Kumar’s fantastic lineup, it is expected that the actor might drop a whopping nine 100 crore entries if all the films released this year, which currently seems next to impossible task, but one never knows with Akshay and his precise planning to rule the number game. The nine films currently lined up for him are – Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Sarfira (Soorarai Potture remake), Singham Again (Extended Cameo), Sky Force, Welcome To The Jungle, Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat (Extended Cameo). The actor has been filming three films since last year: The Untold Story of C Sankaran Nair, Khel Khel Mein, and Hera Pheri. Paresh Rawal has already confirmed that Hera Pheri 3 will drop in 2024.
Possible Postponements
In all probability, Akshay Kumar and Ananya Pandey’s C Sankaran Nair Biopic, Mudassar Aziz’s Khel Khel Mein, and Hera Pheri 3 might get postponed to the next year. Housefull 5 has already been shifted for a 2025 release!
Including Housefull 5, the Atrangi Re actor has at least 1300 – 1500 crore riding on him, and if all goes well, it seems like he is walking very swiftly towards the road to redemption. It might be an Akkiful year this season!
