Very recently South superstar Ileana D’Cruz made a very good debut with Barfi! and it is pretty apparent that she would be enjoying a much longer stint in Bollywood now. Close on her heels arrives Nidhi Subbaiah, another popular name from down South, who would be seen as a leading lady in Ajab Gazabb Love opposite Jackky Bhagnani. Though she is pretty much playing a simple girl next door in the film, Nidhi confesses that in her future assignments, she isn’t shying away from donning an out and out glamorous avatar.
“See, it’s as simple as that. Whatever fame that I have earned today in life is due to my acting career. As an actress, I should not be putting any undue restrictions on myself. If a script demands me to be shown as a particular character then I need to get into its skin. People do ask me if I am okay about exposing for camera. Well, as long as the aesthetics are maintained, I don’t mind that. Tomorrow if there is love making, kissing or bikini scene, I won’t be bothered if I am sure about the people behind the film and their thought process to bring it well on screen. Needless to say, I won’t go all out though,” says Nidhi.
When she started her career in Kannada films, the whole concept of making films was new to her, more so since she had no backing or Godfather whatsoever in the industry. However things were relatively smoother when Bollywood started showing interest in her. Moreover with a director like Sanjay Gadhvi, a well established producer like Vashu Bhagnani and a relative newcomer like Jackky Bhagnani (and that too fresh after the success of F.A.L.T.U) coming together for a comedy like Ajab Gazabb Love, she didn’t have to think much about making a choice.
“And to think of it, I actually thought that they were calling me for an action film,” laughs Nidhi, “After all here was Sanjay coming to the scene after films like Dhoom, Dhoom:2 and Kidnap so I was already ready with my leather jacket while hunting for my bike to get going with some chases and action. However it was my turn to be surprised since Sanjay told me that he had me in mind for a musical romcom.”
Also starring Arjun Rampal in a key role, Ajab Gazabb Love with music by Sajid-Wajid releases all over this Friday.
