Sara Ali Khan has finally arrived in Bollywood. The actress who has been criticized for her movie choices and her acting skills might turn the tables with her upcoming film. Ae Watan Mere Watan will be released on March 21 on Amazon Prime Video. This period drama, produced by Dharmatic Entertainment, is a promising, hard-hitting tale directed by Kannan Iyer.
The historical period drama is bringing the tale of another unsung hero who needs to be celebrated. It is Usha Mehta who started the first radio station that turned into the voice of India during the Freedom movement.
The film, which stars Sachin Khedekar, Abhay Verma, Sparsh Shrivastav, Alexx O’Nell & Anand Tiwari, has offered a powerful glimpse in the 2-minute 53-second trailer. Sara Ali Khan plays a National Hero, Usha Mehta, and her look is captivating. So is her powerful portrayal of the character, and it seems she has understood the nuances perfectly.
While the background music further elevates the glimpse of Ae Watan Mere Watan, the dialogues dominate the entire trailer. From instilling the Karo Ya Maro mantra to the ending dialogue with audio of Sara in a trembling voice, ‘Yeh Radio Band Nahi Hone Dungi’ promises a film and a story never heard before. The details and the depiction seem to have been subtly placed in this period drama, which never goes over the board.
There is something very powerful about those colors in our tricolor. Whoever holds it definitely turns a hero on-screen, and while Sara is delivering a powerful fight, she mouths all of those dialogues with utmost sincerity, looking like she has finally lived the freedom struggle in her Usha Mehta.
Usually, nationalistic films have full potential to go over the board, but Ae Watan Mere Watan is promising otherwise. A detailed documentation of a story that should be heard. But guess what is the best part of the trailer? Only a millisecond glimpse of Emraan Hashmi, who plays the political leader Ram Manohar Lohia in the film.
While Emraan seems to be ready to steal the show in the period drama, Sara Ali Khan might finally get ready for accolades. We are definitely rooting for her and this deshbhakti flavor from Dharmatic Entertainment. The film starts streaming on Amazon Prime from March 21 onwards, and it already seems to be a long wait!
